It wont self tend until there is enough weight on your rope below it.

They work much better on sub 12mm line. They're designed for it, and you won't get the full benefit on 13mm.

 

A hitch climber will work well on any size line, is a whole load cheaper, and much more versatile. You can tune it to suit your style.

 

I like petzl, but I can't really see how the zz can be any better than the hc, especially when it's 3x more!

Indeedy i have, fab bit of kit i think. I can ascend much quicker on this. Love the swivel and the ease of decent.

 

I dont mind the hc, but i felt it had too much "sitback" for me and when hitches are wet its a pain.

 

When im not using it il let you have a bash
