Hi

We are, after many months of discussion, we are due to embark on a new business venture selling biomass fuels... From pellets to logs....we are negotiating on a site in north devon, and hoping that it will complete soon...

Obviously we need everything... Wood processor tractor forklift etc etc....

What do people out there suggest... Particularly for the processor.... Looked at most... Duun hakki Pilki, jappa... All look very much the same... It would be down to what is likely to work best for us...

Anyone have any suggestions on which is best and recommendations for all other stuff needed.... Cheap supplies of vented bags is a must find at. A reasonable price too...so much to buy so little time.....

are you for real.

dont know what business plan you got, or what accountant you are using , but unless you

are springboarding off another enterprise and getting a premium product and price, the

firewood / biomass business doesnt add up.

where is your new expanding market / affluent population in N.devon.?

put some new batteries in your calculator.

i'm inclined to agree a little with bob, unless you're diversifying another business in this direction and using any spare resources available it will be very difficult to make it stack up. starting from scratch (forklift, yard rent, processor, working capital) will be very difficult even more so if you're buying in your raw materials. Have you also done a "what if" budget? could be a useful exercise to see if your plan still stacks up if cord rose in price by 50%, or if you got injured and had to pay someone to do your work or if you didn't hit your sales targets etc

I'm embarking on a similar venture but I'm in the fortunate position of owning the woodland already and the margins are still tight.

Good luck

Selling or producing and selling?. Pellet cost to set up to produce is large, profits are simply not there unless you are being paid to take away your feedstock.

Cost of firewood cord now makes it almost worth buying in ready cut and dried from the old Soviet Union.

Machinery, bags etc do a search here, loads of info. Top flight machines, Palax, Posch, Transaw, maybe Dalen. You will need a teleporter to move timber and/or loaded bags, Manitou are good bits of kit.

North Devon is not one of the countries most prosperous areas either.

Buying in cord now and looking to sell it this next winter, if felled recently it wont be dry enough in time unless you are kilning it.

It's a new business with cash funds from other businesses. There will be no borrowing...and the site we are buying has a considerable source of wood... But buying in cordwood kiln drying with RHI subsidies stacks up for me! Any helpful suggestions willingly taken on board
