Rowan trees

Hello there,

 

Are Rowan trees always pretty small/thin trunk-wise?

 

I can't find images online of any that are particularly chunky.

 

Btw, this is research for a play and I know nothing about trees so apologies now for stupid questions!

The UK's 'chunkiest' champion is (or was) at Kingussie, and has a girth of 437cm

Usually a small tree, also known as mountain ash. Often grow on cliff faces in upland regions on the uk as only place sheep can't reach them so this can stunt growth.

 

Whats the play about etc, that means rowan tree trunk size is important?

Face, its important because a character hides a body inside a hollow tree - i'm not a pyscho I promise!

I don't know of any specific resource for shots of the uk champions, but a trawl through google pulled up a couple of images from the area that 'may' be the tree in question.

 

For a bit of context on your body hidding thought, I don't think in reality that rowan could host a human corpse, but I get your choice of species in terms of location. How about oak ?

oh, that's disappointing - is that because the trunk is more sort of split up into different parts rather than one central column? Rowan has the rights myths and witchcraft stories around it to fit perfectly. Hmmm....

here is the biggest one i can think of close to me or in any of the blocks i manage

 

with the wife beside it for scale and this is a lot bigger than they normally get round here
