Sycamore large limb failure

Rain I guess.....Makes me wonder what this "axiom of uniform stress" is all about.....? I suppose someone will argue this is "self-optimisation"....perhaps it is in a kinda way.......

Most often reckon to see these large lower limbs bow to ground level, gaining support into the bargain ....

I know to within 12 hours when it went, between 9 pm yesterday and 9am today. There was very heavy rain on Sunday, and a bit yesterday. Pretty sure it didnt rain much overnight though.

 

Perhaps I should bank up some soil over it where it touches the ground and see what happens.

 

Incidentally, I believe its in the grounds of a school, although not in an area with access for children.
