Is your 23k from the DECC calculator Chris?

https://renewable-heat-calculator.service.gov.uk/Default.aspx

I just had the green deal assessment yesterday (you prob know GD and current EPC are a part of the eligibility criteria).

GD assessor was warning of inconsistencies between the calculator and the actual payments after GD/EPC inputs.

I'll be making my application as soon as I have the GD/EPC back, will post up outcome once known.

DECC calculator indicates 23.8 k for pellet boiler and 1.33k for solar thermal. Be interesting to see what it actually pays. If it doesn't measure up, considering linking boiler to a building in the yard and going commercial tariff.

Our circumstance was (a) we had to replace the 30yo oil boiler as part of an upgrade (b) I wanted to do my little bit for carbon foot print reduction © I wanted to move away from fluctuating oil prices and potential future price rises.

Lifestyle (at that time) was best suited to pellet auto feed - ease of operation.

RHI back then was speculation not guaranteed but I considered if it did come (and it's taken a good while!) it would be the 'cherry on top' rather than a deciding factor. It was right for me to do the instal anyway, and we did, and I've been content with that decision. Now the RHI is on the near horizon, I'm even happier.

I understand the RHI is a material consideration but does the proposal work for you if you exclude RHI? If yes (or even close to yes) go for it, if the whole cost/benefit analysis collapses when you take RHI out of the equation it might be worth thinking twice. You never know, it might be withdrawn in the future??

Hope that helps?? Are you attending APF? Happy to discuss over a beer if you want.

Kevin......unfortunately rarely attend shows, usually a conflict of interests with family doing viking re-enactment!

Any spare time is spent trying to build neolithic roundhouse....

Will be very interested to know how you get on...c.

Nice! Fair do's, I'll swap everything I've learnt / experienced with RHI for some of your knowledge of round house construction!
