i have been asked to to install a quality wooden remembrance bench between 2 trees in a local grave yard. The trees are 3 meters apart The company who provided the chair provide security retaining brackets which are connected to the legs and secured to a concrete plinth 150mm deep via m12 raw bolts . Am i right to be concerned that concrete base close to tree root system may cause problems It is bit of a delicate matter since the family are set on the present location Equally i am sure that i am going to disturb the root system with the trees in such close proximity many thanks for info

they have just secured the benches in a cemetery i cut and put in concrete slabs 18inchs wide lenght of bench front to back about 6inches deep and bolted bench to that these are by trees. does not have done much to trees they look ok no dead apeared. i doubt if you are going to disturb that much of the root system. no expert but if its a lean post mix should go off and hardly leach much into soil but stand corrected.

If you excavate 100mm say and cast the plinth slightly above ground would give enough weight to secure the bench, use dpm under the slab would help reduce any adverse effects on roots. No guarantees of course!!

I expect it would be fine. To be extra safe you could hand dig around any larger roots, and place plastic sheeting in the hole before the concrete goes in.

Good idea. Any introduction of either concrete or cement will alter the ph of the soil. The root system may in time find its way into the anchoring material, however should avoid it since I suspect it will not like the taste:sneaky2:.
