Is this too good for firewood?
Hi
Got this Yew to take down in Guildford soon. It's going to end up on my firewood pile unless anyone has another use for it? Cheers Jonny

No it won't
 Would you want anything for it? Or are you open to offers? I'd prob pay £100-00 if it was closer to me... that's not an offer just a ball park of what it may be worth to someone to come over with a mill. Some more pics of the main stem would be handy - but def worth milling!

[/QUOexactly... 9 times out 10 its worth as much as firewood as anything else.. also sometimes its not worth hassle of waiting for someone to come collect it. once its down and on the truck you can get paid.. customer wont pay till the butts gone.. was diff when i had a hiab lorry.. could grab it and leave it at yard..had guy local to me who i sell any large volumes of oak butts too who offered me £250 for a decent sized bit oak.. thought i'd split it and see how price compared to split logs.. had three 1.3m3 buckets full.. so even at my low firewood prices it was bit more than he offered.. |

Is it fair to compare the firewood end product with the raw material cost?
How does it get from being a trunk into sawn, split, seasoned, bagged and delivered firewood?

Marko, I think what Nick means, and the point I was sarcastically meaning is that for the hassle caused by most of the "wood turners" out there, it may as well be on the firewood heap.
If a tree bloke gets the chance of a reliable miller or turner to take all this so called "valuable" timber away without fuss they are very, very lucky. It maybe harsh, but true. P.S, the yew I've been burning on my stove for the last week is very hot. .
