I have an MS 230 about ten years old which has not been used a great deal.

 

Last week it was difficult to start from hot although it started o'k from cold. Now it will not start at all.

I have cleaned the filter, changed the plug and used fresh fuel.

There is a spark at the plug, the compression seems o'k, fuel is getting through to the plug and the muffler is not blocked.

 

What else can I try before taking it to the repair shop?

 

Any suggestions will be welcome.

Take the exhaust off and check for scored piston as even if it feels like it's getting compression you'll be surprised with how scored it could be.

How good is the spark and how much fuel is getting through ? Not enough or too much can be a problem and the air to fuel ratio must be right as well.

The saw is now with our local expert which hopefully will not be too expensive.
