vat on firewood

can someone who no's 100% pls let me no what the rate of vat is on firewood.

people say its 5% but my book keeper and accountant don't agree. they say its the full rate.. and must admit i have several dozen invoices where i've charged the vat on at old rate 17.5% and in a vat inspection the vat man has seen them and didn't say it was wrong..

I would of thought its your accounts job to know these things, thats what you pay him for, 5% retail to end user, 20% to trade

Your Accountant is definately wrong! look at vat leaflet 701/19, which sets out that timber sold as firewood eg: logs is sold at a reduced rate of 5%.

Also it looks as if roundwood timber only suitable for firewood, can be sold at 5%, although I have not found anyone yet who does.
