Re: seized IW wheels

try taking the wheel off and tapping the brake drum that should shock the brake shoes off

Re: seized IW wheels

before you take the wheel off. crawl under it and tap the break cable back. if that dont work then dont take the wheel off just undo the big hub nut and pull the brake drum and wheel off in a oner.

it might be that the azbestos (stuff) has fallen of the shoes

Re: seized IW wheels

take wheels off and tap the drums with a big hammer. even tho you left hand brake off if you reversed it into place then you should alsways pull forward a couple of feet due to the way the auto reverse breaks work!

Re: seized IW wheels

Mine does that sometimes, I just smack the wheel studs very hard (mine has male studs and a threaded drum )with a hammer. If you have wheel nuts ( male studs on the drum) instead you may need to remove the wheel and hit the drum itself, as you could dammage any exposed thread on the bolt.

Re: seized IW wheels

My guess is that it hasn't had a brake service for a while ??

Got a TW150 in my workshop for a brake service, the lining on the shoes is only just thicker than paper

Last one I did didn't have any lining and was braking metal to metal, it was that bad it had worn halfway through the drum.

Re: seized IW wheels

thanks for the replies guys.

got underneath it and gave the drums a tap,
took the stud covers off applied a bit o wd40 and the hammer.

jacked it up and although stiff theyre now moving!

its alway been looked after but not been using it for a couple of months so its just been sat there (unfortunateley not undercover though)

it's been on the list of things to do. ie maintenance and TLC - just not had the time. That will give me a kick up the arse to make sure its done.

thanks again guys

Re: seized IW wheels

My brake cables had been crimped/damaged at some time & this had let the water in. This made mine sieze. Think it cost me about £45 for bits. Well worth changing/checking.
