I have no pics like this but I think its a cracking idea to post those up that have them..

 

I have just googled my GG grandfather, and what do you know, I found out where he's buried, Nord in France..... might have to take a pilgrimage one day to pay my respects..

My GG uncle is in France , Great war , my Great uncle in Holland , flying in a Blenheim , most of those got shot to bits. ..

 

Seems my GG grandfather died on the opposite end of the spectrum.. he was a tunneler and most likely died digging undergound... LOL's

 

what I can't believe is he was 47 at the time....

Most likely he was a miner in peace time , so age was not an issue.

Miners were shipped over for this very job , and had special privileges .

 

Quite often they were happy to go as they were suffering from TB. If they died while on service, their widow got a pension. If they died while they were civilians, no war widow's pension.
