On a quick net troll the 090 was still made up until 2005 for export in Germany ... The saws in the photos my guess are ms720's ,I'm no Stihl old school saw expert so excuse my ignorant in first comment but it does appear the ms720's are the main saws used in this market and are still in production ... Which really goes to show how much they care about the well being of people in Africa or rain forests as long as there is a market.

I would imagine the image used of an old saw is a generic image to illustrate the story, with the relevant bit being the story , and the linked story of the close personal relationship between Stihl and the logging firm. The reporting and facts of the friendship suggests that it is not a case of the loggers happening to use Stihl, but of Stihl supporting them.

 

I have always been surprised by the 'if I don't do it/supply it, then someone else will ' view, when looking at morality/ethics etc.
