Lucky you.

We don't get to see them in the North.

I miss them since moving up here many moons ago.

They are mainly found in the south east and south west of England.

In May and June they are flying; looking for dead and decaying wood to lay their eggs on to start the next generation.

Be nice to them.

They are a protected species.

Thanks for the link 10Bears.

Very interesting.

I've tried hard to decipher any possible connection with Stag beetles being found on or near the Wirral.

I still think that I'm more likely to find a cat-flap on a submarine in Birkenhead docks.

Your link substantiates what I said in my original post:- "They are mainly found in the south east and south west of England."

There will always be the oddball Stag beetle that goes astray and forgets which area of the country its meant to be in.

Not seen one round here, would love to see them fly! Beetles that size look like they are too heavy too fly!

We get quite a few cockchafer's though. Got a turn the other night with a cockchafer flying against the bathroom window (which I leave permanently open a crack). Sounded like someone strimming the window frame! :D
