Anyone use a "safety razor"?

I'm getting fed up with the shaving industry and their "new improved 16 blade razors". I'm thinking of going old school and getting a safety razor.

 

Does anyone use one? I've heard they give a better shave (and less irritation) than a cartridge razor?

I have found the opposite . I now use a company called Shave Kit . They send me a pack of 5 blade cartridges once a every 2 months at a fraction of the cost of the equivalent Gillette or Wilkinson . I use Sandalwood shaving soap and a badger hair brush .

I just can't bring me self to pay the price of the blades- the profit on them must be huge!!

When the bank agrees to let me take out a mortgage I make a set of 4 blades last 6 months. But then again I do carry a beard so it's only a bit of detailing and neck chaf

Get an electric beard trimmer then. That's all I use. Can set it to a length if want to keep a beard or it'll cut down to very short stubble. I wet shave every few months if there's an event happening

I have to be clean shaven for the breathing apparatus, it kills me to buy razors, I've been looking at a cut throat.

I gave up proper shaving years back, took to using an electric shaver I'd bought to for cutting my hair...

 

Put it on its lowest setting to see how it'd do 'an it worked just fine.. obviously you don't get a clean shave as such, but its adequate for me.....

yeah, I hate that feeling of being conned..

 

you can prolong the life of a razor by rubbing them against an old pair of jeans. I used to get about 5 shaves from my Gillette cartridges, after rubbing them on jeans I get about 30 uses a cartridge.

 

The blades don't actually get blunt with shaving, they just get gunked up with oils. Rubbing them on jeans cleans them.

I have switched to a cut throat, uses half a razor blade in the holder and I get half a dozen shaves per half blade - bargain........
