What a predicament!

I do quite a bit of work for a pump company, about a week each month. I was on one of their jobs last week when the lady that manages the site put it to me that we could 'have a deal', meaning that I could do the work direct, I'm not going to do it.

Right or wrong?, T'is business after all.

If you got found out by the pump company could they/would they take other work from you. Even if they wouldn't, they're going to look at it as poor integrity. You'd potentially be making a short term bit of extra money, but long term you could screw other contracts up. Play the long game, you'll earn more.

Very sensible, IMO.

Do as you would be done by.

She would gain greatly, were as you would be jeopardising an important client relationship.

Loyalty is getting less and less common, unfortunately, good for you:thumbup1:

If I found one of my staff (employed or self employed) doing that to me it would be game over instantly, and I would never ever offer them any work or assistance again going forwards, even if it made my life hard in the short term. Only you know if the volume of potential work is worth your while stabbing your employer in the back for (and you obviously have morals, which is extremely important in a working relationship).

We as a business regularly undertake work on behalf of what in reality could be seen as our our competitors but I wouldn't look to cut them out of the job. Reputation and working relationships are built up over time and have to be valued from both sides IMO.

Eggs, thats the example all your countrymen should be setting, as GB heads into independence. Resist the temptation of filthy lucre, whatever the source - and stand up for good old fashioned principles. Trust will be the crucial ingredient in the success of the new "retro" Britannia. We can stick it to the Man, but lets working Men treat each other right.
