Safe Overnight Stopping Place in Denmark (Horses/Dogs)

TRADITIONAL LOGGERS

So as DFDS  won't take horses and dogs on the same sea crossing (Immingham to Esbjerg) then it looks like we will have to soon drive down from Derbyshire to Dover and cross to Calais :001_rolleyes: Then drive 1400 miles up through France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Denmark with 3 Shires/Clydesdales and 2 German Shepherds.

We have sourced a safe place to overnight the animals and us in Duisburg/Osnabruck area of Germany but need a additional place in northern Denmark before arriving at Hirtshals Havn to cross to Langesund in southern Norge.

We have portable electric fencing and the horses are used to that. A clean source to fill water cans would be useful at same site.

Ideas and help welcome. Thanks in advance.

Stena Line sails from harwich to the hook of Holland, much easier than Dover>calais, quite cheap too. We normally take the night boat with dogs staying in the car overnight. (they have kennels but I think our dogs prefer the car they know to the sterile kennel with other dog in it too)

The boat leaves 11 pm and arrives about 7:30 (so the journey passes whilst sleeping, no time lost), 5minute drive to the beach to entertain the dogs and on we go.

I'm fairly sure I've seen horseboxes on the boat before...?

Edit: just checked, they take horses.

I've travelled to Denmark countless times with horses and always travelled Harwich to eisjberg Denmark it takes 18hrs that ferry and you can go down to the horses anytime you need tooo

as Rover says the alternative is Harwich to hook of holland and drive up through Germany which adds on driver hrs for the wagon

Thanks. DFDS closed the Harwich to Esbjerg route in 2014. Now 2 brand new freight ships from Immingham but boss in Denmark said no. Dover crossing 60mins and main roads good. I will check the prices on Stenaline to Hook of Holland.

That's a shame it closed I last went on that ferry in 2011

If you need tickets or overnight stops give john Parker horse transport a call at hythe in Kent he is pretty competitive on prices
