Newbie stuck Bar and Chain 3/8 3.25 444 EWindsor

Hi,

Well I'm still playing with my jonsered 49 sp.. I need to change the clutch drum.

There is some where on the bar at tip (its got burred edge) but depth seems unaffected. On drum sprocket is scored and there is a fair sized lip internally.

I want to avoid as much expence as possible. I didnt want to get a bar also if that could be avoided..

my sprocket & bar are 3/8 windsor.

Given there is no chainbrake I wanted to get a reduced kickback chain and was looking at: this

However now I wonder if a windsor bar/ sprokcet are compatible with others chain/ sprocket types. I read that windsor pitch was slightly different. Should all 3 items match or just the in terms of type (obviously 3/8 or .325 do.. )

Also what difference does the amount of teeth make. I'm seeing 7 or 8 teeth. Currently I have 7. Does that have to map somehow to bar that is used? Or chain?

Thanks..

The only things that have to match are the drive sprocket and the chain and the nose sprocket pitches . As long as they are all .375 or all .325 then your ok . Also the gauge of the the chain must match the width of the slot formed by the bar rails . 1.3 or 1.5 or 1.6 etc . As for number of teeth on the drive sprocket I would keep it standard ( probably 7 ) unless your saw is modified in any way ( ported ) to make it run harder . Putting an 8 on will give you a faster chain speed for a given rpm ( in fresh air ) but may not have the torque to keep it from bogging at full bar depth cuts . Any more than a one tooth increase usually means you have to add drivers to the chain loop as it wont be long enough to fit . Hope this makes sense .

Ref that saw good news is oregon do drive sprocket for it and it is a K095 mount.

Parts are as below. Oregon selector guide although full of in accuracy is a godsend OREGON®: Selector Guide.

I know you don't want to spend too much - but the trouble is a worn drive sprocket will have worn the drive links which will have worn the bar.

If you change just one thing it's similar to changing the oil on your car but not changing the oil filter at the same time.

It is. :001_smile:

As a general comment, the term ".375" shouldn't be used though, as the pitch of 3/8" chain isn't .375, but rather .366....:sneaky2:

I never new that bud . Just assumed it was what it sad it was never having measured it accurately . :001_smile:

Windsor and Carlton have been bought up by Oregons owner (Blount), and as far as I know all that is left of the Windsor products are some of the bars, that are sold under the Carlton brand name (Speed-Tip). Windsor branded products are history (again, as far as I know).
