big christmas trees any good for fire wood??

i had a phone call today from a fellow farmer who has about 2acres of christmas trees that he wants clearing

i was wondering if this wood is any good for selling as logs?

how long will it take to dry suffecently to burn clean?

No, they would best be used cut dryed, and when you have a late night party, drink and all, throw one from time to time on to the fire, the fire fairys will be great , they will fly high up into the night sky. I love christmas trees, if you can't sell em in the winter burn them in the summer.

Surely you would be better waitin till xmas and sellin them ? You would make a killin . Dependin how big they are ?

Spruce is a great burning wood when seasoned.

People were selling big xmas trees from their front gardens last year. If they had been closer I would have paid £25-£50 for one for our front garden if it was 15ft +

thanks guys, i think that these trees maybe a little big for house christmas trees i think that they're atleast 30 foot tall, maybe we'll cut the tops out and sell them as christmas trees come december, then use the rest as fire wood

i imagine that they'll take a while to dry out enough to use as firewood

Shouldn't do really. Cut it in 1m lengths and split them in half then stack on pallets in a long row with tarp(s) over the top. Lovely firewood by winter 2012.

 

Bit of a messy job snedding it all though. Lots of gum I would guess.

there is a market for big trees, someone supplys them for villages, shopping centres etc!!!

would all the gum of dried enough to burn cleanly,

would it not dry quicker if it was processed into logs then stored in my barn?

good thinking robbo i did think about that, not to sure weather they're in the typical triangle christmas tree shape or not they're pretty close to each other
