Hi Folks

Whats the deal with driving and towing with a mog, what licence is required ?

Assume not for hire or reward just moving our own kit from A to B.

How big a trailer can it pull both on paper and real life ?

thanks

I have tried hard to find this information out, from I can find your looking at 10-12ton with a balanced trailer.

Newer Unimog (round cab) appear to tow more at 18ton when registered as a truck, when at 12 ton.

In real life they can tow more we have tugged round 16 ton happily. In the eyes of the dvsa though...

I think a tractor's legal gross train weight is 24 tonnes - if the mog is registered as an agricultural vehicle then it I believe it can legally tow 24 tonnes minus the loaded weight of itself. If it's a commercial vehicle then it will depend on how it is plated.

This used the be the case, but its was changed to 31tonnes.

What about the vehicles plated/designed weight? Is this exempt in ag use?

Obviously you cannot exceed the trailers plated weight, but that was not the OP's question.

If the trailers plated weight allows it, you can legally gross up to 31tonnes as a combination, as far as I know.
