Pto hydraulic powered splitter

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at getting a MF 135 to carry out a variety of light tasks on the farm. One of its main duties will be powering an Oxdale splitter. I am a little unsure if the 135 will have sufficient hydraulic flow to adequately feed the splitter so I have been looking at what pto hydraulic pumps are around.

One thing I can't work out is how big a tank I would need? Has anyone got a pto powered hydraulic splitter and knows the capacity of their tank?

Thanks,

You don't necessarily need a separate tank as you can combine the flows via one way valves unless you are intending for the second pump to be very much larger than the 3-4 gallon per minute linkage pump. Have a look at an old Mconnel PA44 (if any still exist)which ran in conjunction with the linkage pump and no separate reservoir.

Generally the tank should be around 1.5 times the flow per minute, it also should be taller than it is wide with the return flow to below the reservoir minimum level. A separate tank has the advantage you can run on straight iso 32 hydraulic oil.
