What are the chip master chippers like?

 

Are they any good? By todays standards?

 

I see they did 170-180-220 etc look big wide hoppers etc

Well Chris, as you know I got one from your neck of the woods a couple of years back.

 

Once I fixed it up a bit I would say that the 55hp Isuzu engined chip master is/was at least as good as an ST8. An absolutely stonking chipper for a fraction of the price of a more modern one.[ame]

Had a 160 for a few years - apparently no two were the same from the factory so buying spares was a total minefield. The part numbers never seemed to match the diagram in the manual. It caught fire right at the end of a job, and I replaced it with a Jensen 530 - best move I ever made I think!

I may even still have an original manual lurking somewhere for the Chipmaster if anyone wants it?

1.2 or 1.3 tonne if I recall.

Yes Johnny, sold the GM (because I couldn't tow it here legally) and bought an ST8, so in a position to say I think.

Well watching the vid any thing bigger than 3inch it was dead slow 🐌

I had a 220 Chris for 4 years, couldn't fault it, simple enough, good engine etc, hydraulic power on in feed wasn't as good as the forst but it was a much older machine and bloody great for conn jobs being 9" !
