I had a 17 year old that is doing arb at college, and was climbing using both ends of his rope because that is how they are taught to climb at college. They don't get told about side stropes or anything like that. How can they expect them to become good tree surgeons :-/

Side strop doesn't make you a good climber, climbing ability does :) start from the bottom, I've seen some wicked climbers still using end on end :)

I just think college should tell you more techniques than just a prussic and 2 ends of you rope. But just my opinion, think more should be taught when it comes to climbing.

I disagree. Students don't get enough climbing time to explore all the available options. What time they do get should be focused on getting them used to just climbing the tree. Plenty of time following their course to progress

I only had 3 sessions before my cs39! And maybe just over 3hours with the saw.

 

Id agree with more time in the tree though
