Wolf WPCS-38 ignition issue??

Hi All

Opinions sought on a Wolf WPCS-38 "Garden light" saw.

A mate of mine has one of these and it has now stopped mid cut twice after say 15 minutes use. Each time after going stone cold (hour or two) it has restarted. It has run fine for a few years of modest use. His description over the phone i have not seen it...

Symptoms:

After it stops if the plug is removed there is no spark with the plug out rested on the head when pulled over.

Fuel all good and as mentioned if left to go cold it starts fine - this has now happened twice.

We have a good google and this saw gets little if any mentions..

My friend is under no illusions it may be curtains for this little saw - any suggestions (other than cut for no more than 15 minutes :001_smile:) We wondered if the ignition could be breaking down somehow?

Thanks

Chris

From what I have seen, I think the Wolf is a McCulloch California in different colours - not bad saws TBH, fairly strong and have alloy crankcases!

If the spark test you are doing is good and you definitely don't have spark when the saw is hot but it returns when cold then it may well be the coil electronics breaking down.

One thing you can try is to reduce the gap between the coil and flywheel, it is usually the thickness of a business card but try using a piece of A4 paper, make sure the coil doesnt touch the flywheel when spun and try again.

You can try disconnecting the kill wire from the coil but it doesn't sound like this is the problem - fortunately the saw has many incarnations so spares shouldn't be an issue!

Oh - try a new plug, they don't go wrong often but worth a £1.50 spend!
