It's not a lot of money as you'll feel it will pay for itself in saved effort after five days work.

The choice is a near impossible one. I'd suggest going to a dealer and holding both, that'll help.

I used an LJ for almost eight years and loved it. I was going to retire it for an SJ as I personally think its a more refined design but I've bought a Rope Wrench instead as SRT is better.

Spiderjack is also meant to self tend better than the lj plus finer control. Advantages of lj I'd say is that you can attach it midline plus it's easy to control limb walking via pulling slack out the top which is difficult todo with sj at the wooden break gets in the way.

Though I haven't properly worked an SJ, I'd still go for the LJ. IMO it has infinite control, don't get why you think otherwise Joe, just takes time to get used to, as with all gear. The top pull positioning with the LJ is fantastic, and still possible if you ever decide to go down the rope wrench road.

Mostly though, it's probably personal preference. See if you can get to a rec climb near you and try both

Dan I don't think otherwise I think the lj is awesome and I have been considering getting one plus a rw. I love the way you can release slack through the top. I think it is such a hard thing to compare them both as they are both as good as each other.
