Went to an auction today of a plant company that was closing down. It had had some billing on the auctioneers web site for months, "vast selection of tools and spares."

Well, after such a build up - it was disappointing to say the least. Who wants to buy used air filters? If I described a lot of the items as scrap, I wouldn't be exaggerating - a scrapman loaded most of it on to his truck at the end of the sale so the price for scrap must be high if he can afford to buy it.

There was a TD5 90 truck cab pick up, 130k miles, average condition with 12m mot - sold for £4900 plus vat which I would have said was high.

A canny selection of vintage tractors ranging from little grey Fergies (about 7!) to Majors, Ford 4000s, Massey 35,135 and a nice International B250: prices ranged from £700 to £3800.

There was a Valtra 8100 we were interested in, a little rough around the edges, clock was showing just under 13,000 hours but when you turned the key on the electrics were all over the place: £8,000.

Other one we were keen on was a Ford 7810 4 wheel drive but the cab was rotten and engine had a nasty knock:£5500.

So all I bought was a cup of tea and piece of cake and then a sausage sandwich and a cuppa - much to the wifes relief! But it was an enjoyable day out in good company in beautiful countryside!
