Re: Waste through a terrace house.

Hi All

 

Can I ask your thoughts as to moving waste through a terrace house as no rear access available. I have been asked to remove a large willow tree and this is the only option open to me. This is a first so I have never had to consider this in the past, have any of you had to do this?

 

Yet to quote so will know more in a few days.

I really would not take the waste through the house, builders bag at the most, can you take a fence down to cross neighbours garden to your vehicle? Try and involve the neighbours. I bet they will be glad to see the back of the tree as well, all those leaves n twigs.

Cut it small and carry it through make clear the level of 'damage' you expect to leave, if any and price accordingly

When you work in London through the house is usually the only option.

Ask the homeowner to cover up door frames, radiators etc, use builder bags to carry brash out, turn up with sheets to cover the floor & most importantly let the customer know that it will be messy & you are not responsible for chipped paint etc.

Use a wheelie bin has a bulk bag will be a pain in the arse .

Many jobs I have done using a micro chipper and wheelie bin no problems.

 

Has said make sure you are not held accountable for damage in house though .

Never been a pain using builders bags, you lay the bag flat, stack the brash & roll it up & carry it under arm through the house.

Tell the customer they are also responsible for tidying the house (unless they are happy to pay professional tree surgery rates for the cleaning) - I've never has a customer ask me to tidy in the house - result.

 

Just manage their expectations and theres no surprise.

All good advice, done it a few times myself in London.

Managing their expectations,as you say, is the key.

I refuse any job now where it has to go through the house. It punishes the householder for being greedy by building over their side passage. Its a hassle, and not worth the agro. I tell them im not insured for damage.

I did once take a digger through someones house though!!
