Zigzag for SRT

Anyone using the Zigzag for SRT with a Ropewrench?

 

I know it's designated for double rope only, I'm just curious as to why?

Tried it the other day and it's the best srt setup I have used. Bit of a Mong with srt and a bit set in my ways though so I'm sure I am doing something wrong.

Hi Mark. yeah it works really well but in the event of the rope wrench not being engaged the zz is taking your full weight instead of half the weight, like it is designed for. SO... with all the cracks that keep appearing on zz's it wouldnt be my first choice of climbing system... unless you have a really good tether and also check every single time that the wrench is FULLY engaged. But petzl say no either way lol

Also the zigzag has 2 attachment points that are used on double line but can't be used on single line so all the stress will be put on the links

Yes I use my zigzag with a rope wrench but not exclusively that way. Works good for me, however I keep a very close eye on it. Would be real happy to see petzl approve it or make similar purely for srt though.

I use it. Works fine with rope wrench, still playing with making it advance smoothly on the way up. Nice tether that honeys made me, makes it engage well. Have tried it without but zigzag got quite hot after only short amount of descent, put me off so went back to the wrench.

Lock Jack and rope wrench works well. Wouldn't mind trying the Bull dog and Rope runner.

have you read the instructions for your zig zag? what dies it say about srt again?

that said the zigzag is not DESIGNED to be used with a rope wrench, in theory the repeaded cycling of the zigzag with the wrench not or partially engage would lead to increased wear and higher loading

if you're half my weight then flap your arms quickly and you'll fly up
