07 Ford Ranger vibration in 3rd gear under load

There's a slight but noticeable vibration in 3rd and 4th gear at between 1,500 and 2,000 revs. Not noticeable in any other gear at the same rev range.

Worse when towing.

It's not too bad, but I'd quite like to get it sorted. The truck has done 96,000 miles and is used infrequently.

 

Any ideas?

Was the same on mine mate, was the centre prop bearing. Lay underneath and give it a wiggle see if there is any play in it.

Jeus what's ging on with these Rangers? Useley really sound. Seems to be problems with the newer ones 08 to 012.:confused1:what year is yours?

Wheel balance, tracking, uj's.

 

Had the same on my 90 twice, one front uj then the other a few weeks later. Both times it only made a noise in 3rd, nothing in different gears or rev ranges. Give your props a shake and check for play

Or the UJ spider; supposed to be greaseable but manufacturing error means grease gallery only goes to 3 of the 4 bearing caps - will post a photo later lol.
