Hi guys and girls,

 

The front breaks on my RB44 have locked (no laughs about breaks please, these have locked on, most claims relating to breaks on the RB are to do with them being insufficiant, these are certainly locked)!

 

After an hour's drive, two hour's work and an hour back we unhitched the chipperand set off to job no. 2 for the day, it was instantly apparant that the breaks were partially on, within 50 meters we stopped to check things out and realised what was going on. The vacume dial usually sits at around 50% all the time, right now, at idle, the vacume continues to rise to 100%,. We managedf to limp the truck off the drive by continuous tapping of the now rigid break pedal (which gave enough to let us move in first gear). I assume it's a problem with the vacume since there is no fluid loss, but as this is a reletively new vehicle to me and my first with vacume assisted breaks, I jave no idear what to do!

 

Suggestions greatfully recieved...

When the mechanic arrived, he found the breaks to be fine, I've had a drive too and the breaks are no longer stuck on, the mechanic is confused, I'm relieved but equally worried this could happen whilst driving along! Any further suggestions welcomed.

 

The BRAKES ( as apposed to breaks ) on our horse box leak out very slowly when its stood and you need to wait with the engine ticking over for the reservoir to come up to pressure before they will let off . Could it be that . ?

Vacuum and air work different, think rb44 run on a ratchet hand brake so wouldn't be affected by low pressure , if the gauge is going up to 100 the vacuum is pulling the brakes on without being actuated, if that makes sense , possibly a sticky valve somewhere in the system
