Ideal Hitch Height???

A question:

If there was no nose weight to consider, and no weight transfer between the trailer and towing vehicle (it's a turntable trailer) what would be the ideal hitch height for traction?

If we presume the vehicle is a defender 90:

High up, so the trailer pulls the car onto it's rear axle more?, but then pushes the back up on braking.:confused1:

Low down, does that have a slight lifting effect on the back axle?:confused1:

Chassis height?:confused1:

I've given this some thought but there's probably someone out there who's armed with facts and such...:001_smile:

Cheers, Daniel

According to the VOSA inspection manual for the IVA test the coupling height for type 01 and 02 trailer (I think anything up to 3.5 ton) the following applies

"With the trailer horizontal and resting on a level surface, coupling heads must be attached so that the coupling point of the trailer is 430+/- 35mm above the ground."
