KM 130 won't start...

I'm after some advice on my 6 month old kombi unit. Only used about 3 times and barely run in. Last used about 3 months ago though!

 

I've read about the many issues with these units in the search, so just want to see if I've missed something to save doing 50 mile round trips to the dealer i bought it from!

 

Firstly it's run on Aspen so can't be a stale fuel issue, I've put a brand new plug in and had the air filter out and had hair drier on it! Still not firing. I've just washed the air filter in warm soapy water to make sure its not oil soaked in to the filter causing the issue. The filter is still drying at the moment. But if it still fails to fire up I'm at a loss!

 

It had been stored lying down but now stood up so fuel shouldn't leak back in to the filter again if it is the cause...

 

Is there anything else I need to try before taking back to the dealer?

Did you check the spark before putting in a new plug?

 

Petrol engines need three things to work, fuel air mix, spark and compression, one of these is missing then it won't go.

 

So check spark, then check spark plug is wet. try putting some fuel straight down the carb, I would rule out compression as it's still new.

 

Is the choke doing it's job?

The old plug was wet Rich but I couldn't see a spark when I pulled it over with the plug out (and connected! lol).

Hence why I put a new plug in to rule a spark problem out, as I read they can go through a few plugs?!

The air filter was very wet with fuel though...

 

How would i check the choke is doing its thing?...

If it's closing properly.

 

Sounds like fuel is not your problem. Unless it getting way too much.

 

Remove the spark plug and out it up against the cylinder cooling fins. Then pull over and look for a spark. If there is no spark the that's the start point. This could be an off switch issue or a coil issue. Could be a loose connection on it.

Another victim of Stihl 4-mix....

 

 

Valves needing to be adjusted after three uses is a total joke (if indeed that transpires to be the problem). Is it particularly hard to pull over?

 

God knows why Stihl are pushing this rubbish for another year. They must have a large stock of 4-mix to use up. You'd like to think they'd stopped making them by now?

 

The air filter being wet sounds like yours has the incontinence issue- the second common fault with these engines.

It's fine to pull over...

 

Funny thing is I bought the Stihl to replace the cheap Chinese combi set I had. That hasn't missed a beat in 3 years of light use.
