im in the process of soring my 411 unimog its reg historic vehicle at the moment trying to get it as AG MACHINE having a few probs. DVLA are ok with it but VOSA are not they are saying it has to stay historic therfore it needs an MOT which i dont want to have to get. Im sure it would pass an mot as a friend of mine checks it through once a year and hes a MOT tester. i think DVLA have tightened up a bit on changing to agri to many farmers trying to get there range rover sport on AG tax class

I register my two vehicles that are agricultural class, at the post office,I just take along a current valid insurance document for them, and they don't require a MOT, and the tax disc is issued. They are also tax exempt, but although yuo don't have to pay excise, you do have to display the tax disc in the window of the vehicle.

Might sound a bit anal but I think every vehicle that go on a road in any way should have an mot, including tractors, their trailers and implements. Also caravans and ordinary trailers.

 

I hate to think that something like a huge tractor can travel on a road carrying huge loads without ever having to have it's brakes checked for efficiency.

 

...and caravans ??? Dont even get me started on them :001_smile:

i agree with you ,i used to have an mot exempt army lorry, brake pipe burst going down a hill in cornwall and i had to use the hedge as a break ,even if my vehicle was mot exempt these days id still take it for one.

did you register the ex army lorry as an agri vehicle? how do you go about it?

 

anyone else have experience of this, and running ag registered vehicles on the road?

is there an agri/forestry catorgrey?

what hoops do you have to jump through to get this?

 

one of my farmer mates reckons you can only drive 10 miles away from youre yard on ag registered vehicles, and between youre land, but ive also read on here that its a 100km radius?

also heard of ag registered with extended road use, can anyone explain?

 

ive been on dvla, and emailed them last week regarding regestring an ex military vehicle for civillian use, but more specifically for ag/forestry work but waiting to hear back from them
