Taking the van home
Just wondering if any employees take the work vans home regularly and if they do has anyone had issues with having to pay extra tax as its classed as a company vehicle?

Unless its issued to you as a company car as part of your employment package then there wont be any tax on it. Maybe dont shout about it to the tax man though.
Just see it as a huge priveledge to take it home and dont abuse it!! Many people I know have been sacked for beign spotted using the van to go to the pub etc. Of course if it were truely a company car then you could use it for personal use, but I imagine in this case that is nto how it is!

I am very lucky as I have use of a landrover and my boss pays my fuel as I have fuel card he even let me drive it to the arbshow as it was educational with all the events going on

Company vehicles are a privilege given by a company, don't abuse them and look after it.
Don't think our works vehicle would fit outside mine and I wouldn't trust the thieving so and so's that live in my area. Damn thing would be empty within an hour of being parked outside......

The big problems with emplyees taking a van home are security, not coming into work due to illness and abuse.

So for it to be a company vehicle would no-one else be able to use it and for it to be available for personal use?
Not sure if I'm probing into a grey area here or not, it certainly wouldn't be written into an employment contract and I don't think anyone would object to the occasional bit of personal use as long as the urine wasn't extracted. |

The use of a works vehicle to and from work to enable you to be available at the drop of a hat for emergency work is not a taxable perk
 . If however you are allowed to use the vehicle for personal journeys (including to and from work if you are not on call) then you need to be declaring it.You also need to make sure you are insured to use the vehicle for non business related journeys |
