I'm offering hedge-hutting, lawn mowing, strimming, pruning and tree-work. I've already got my advert in Yellow pages (only under Garden Services it appears thoug, wonder if I need to re-list my advert for every search criteria on Yell?)

So what is best - going national via something like Yellow pages hoping to cover a big area, or literally going door to door with flyers or business cards, or putting up notices in shops?

why would you go "national" grass cutting,,,? if your doing a good job,at a fair price, with honest standards,,your best form of advertising will be word of mouth,,,

Yeah I know but a lot of places people don't talk to their neighbours, or their neighbours are using equipment, I meant national, bad word I concede, in the sense of trying to cover a broad market.

Keep business cards/flyers with you. When you do a job, post through other doors in the same street. As long as it's not near me :001_rolleyes:

Best way to advertise is,

Post card sized cards in your local shops ,cafs , everywhere you go and buy things on a regular basis take a stack with you most places will display then for free for you if you take a bit of time to get to know the shop keepers .

Garden centres have notice boards , your local pubs where you drink eat ,

The fish and chip shop , your local takeaways when you have purchased a meal see if they will take a stack of cards . All my local ones do for me .

If you ever do a car boot sale make sure every customer tbat buys something gets one you will chat to loads of people on your stall in a morning .

1 boot sale usually nets me 1 job for 8 quid a stall to clear your clutter and gain a customer is excellent value for money .

Every customer you do some work for give them a stack to they will advertise for you for free word of mouth job done ,

A website it does not need to be expensive

Do jobs for all your friends . The circle then gets bigger as they tell there's .

Advertising is easy for very little cost it just takes a good reputation and a bit of get up and go and a passion for what you do and you will be a winner from day one . I can garentee it 100%

Hope this helps littletree:thumbup:

You need to do some marketing first to then target your customer base, then choose your form of advertising.

But that's all very technical, your best advert is YOU, so from the moment you become your business you have to be professional 24/7.

be ready to chat to your customer anytime anywhere.

Every action and word you say must lead to the 1 thing, and that's your reputation.:)
