Splitting 066 crankcase...

Hi, Just had to do this job, was a total nightmare, walking on water would have been easier !!

Any one else had problems with these ??!

Had to do one on 880 to replace crank with broken circlip groove. Not a quick job, lost a lot of money because I could not charge the amount of hours I took. Could do it faster next time, but dont want a next time!

Stihl do have special, very expensive tools to help:001_rolleyes:

 

They are usually difficult when the gasket won't split or the crank wont pop off the crank.

 

I tend to go carefully with a lot of bad language - very easy to crack pieces of casing off and regret it later - they are thinner than you would think!

 

Heat helps but just need to ge easy........and make sure all bolts and dowels are out - Stihl hide them under oiler unions - don't ask how I know:lol:
