I've got teh collins, both the hard and paper backed versons. go for the hard backed, its a few quid more but it has more species in it.

 

there are other tree ID book, try treesource.co.uk

'Tree Diseases and Disorders' by H Butin is a good one for pest/disease identification - ideal if you're training. I've got the Collins Tree Guide too plus there's a Dorling Kindersly Guide at work which is good for quick reference.
