Help please!! forestry commission rates

Good evening all,

Just wondering if any one could give me a bit of help please!

I've been invited to tender for work with the forestry commission cutting back footpaths and general chainsaw work, but not major felling work. After doing a lot of hoop jumping in the PQQ to get the Invitation to tender stage(ITT)

I was just wondering if any one would be so kind as to let me know what the going rates are for 2 men and a chipper, for the day, for this sort of work.

I've been working in the private domestic sector for 11 years and know the prices I can charge. When it comes to forestry commission work I have'nt got a clue! in theory it should be more because of all the extra paper work and H&S you have to do. But a few people I have spoken to have said there is less money in forestry work.

I've done all the workings out for my costs van, chipper, men, fuel, insurance and the list just goes on and on.(it comes to stupid amounts!!)

Any help/advice would be much appreciated!!

Many thanks Steve.

Not sure what the rates are for this kind of work to date but I am sure the Commission would let you know as they usually make them freely available.

Why not just ask them?

The FC ave fixed rates, and will be more than happy to tell you what they are. Whether you want to work for these rates is a different matter. The small amount that i have done for the FC has ment that i have had to work longer hours to turn a profit.
