Re: Ambrym Volcano expedition
Geoff Mackley's Site Directory
just got back from the trip-amazing experience, we camped on th crater rim for 8 days with a 600m drop into the lava lake below a couple of metres away. The lava lake is about 2-3 football pitches in size and the total crater is jut mindblowingly big! The noise from the lava is deafening an it spurts about 100m straight up-unbelievable the power of nature at it's rawest. The pics and vid are cool but still nothin like being there-I had a great time but the sulphur wrecks ya gear went through 2 cinchs, 6 crabs 2 ropes and a treemtion harness but who cares, what a trip

I should have some more HD video to post over the next week or two. Can't wait to do more now. The whole place glows bright orange at nigh whenyour lying in your tent, you can just stare at the magma for hours as it just does it's thing.
