Traffic Management

Catchy title.

Hi, We're after a bit of advice. We're a small firm and need to prune a large poplar in an area overhanging a road and pavement. We're trying to work out if its cheaper/easier to hire bollards etc and employ a couple of people to manage traffic (people and cars) or whether to hire a professional company to do this for us.

However we can't find any such companies and can't find anywhere to hire/buy bollards, signs etc.

Any ideas would be welcomed.

Cheers

Seth

If you were nearer I would do it for you

Aslong as the 'hired' have signs lighting and guarding 'operator' and supervisor you will be ok and would be cheaper than hiring a traffic management co - this could be the same person or at least have a supervisor check your signage at the begining and be on the phone if needed.

To legally stop traffic the least you need a stop works sign ( like a lolly pop lady) this would enable you to stop traffic momentarily while you get the awkward bits down without having to set up lights etc..

Your local highways might be able to point you in the right direction and give you advice always good to keep on the right side of them

Screwfix do cones, - short ones are £20 for 5, I think 18 inch. Signs from various tree suppliers - folding, man with umbrella type, with treework bit bolted on somewhere seem to work out at about 50 quid each.

I don't have section 8, and currently own one 18 inch cone. I'm thinking of investing in an expansion of my fleet, to 6 cones and possibly a sign or two, in the near future.

Any input from arbtalk suppliers appreciated.

Buxtons did me a Chapter 8 kit for about 500 quid just the signs though. It's 2 men at work "tree cutting" signs, 2 men at work "end" signs 2 keep right arrows. All folds up into two bags about 5' long.

that sounds a bit steep for six signs. My warrington supplier, quoted 50 quid for one sign and deals on more than that so less than 300 squids, if my maths hasn't gone wrong, which it usually does.

My mistake there are two road narrows signs as well, so 8 in total.
