Quick and easy chip box
I dont have a chip box on my truck nor intend to have one built as I dont often need one, on the odd occassion i do i get by. I have a job this week where it would be handy to get more chip on and want to knock up something cheap and easy to use. My idea is 3 sheets of ply cut to the same length(the width of the bulk head)and fixed together with hinges. very crude but at least they should stand up on their own whilst theres no chips holding them up. If anyone has any suggestions to make this better please let me know

Fwiw, Peter has built a very tidy chip box on the back of his transit using plywood. He's used the coated stuff they use for trailer beds.

Many years ago i used to use three sheets of ply,i had two uncut 8' by 4' down each side,it was a ldv,and the third sheet was a tight fit between the other two,i also put a ratchet strap up and over half way down to hold every thing in place.
Did not look very pro,but did the job

If your going to use hinges, i would consider the heavy duty strap hinges that lift off the posts so you can lift it off the back in three pieces rather than breaking your back trying to get it off in one go.

I agree with the ply for the chip box.
make sure it's marine ply and 3/4" if you want it to last. Use angle iron as a frame and it will last forever. |
