Shear pins went in my Tirfor t516 other day and got some new pins from FR Jones (thanks for speedy service  ) and going to replace later. Never done it before tho so a simple question here of how to do it? Is it simply knock the old bits out and bang the new one in or is there a any little tricks to it? Thanks in advane :001_smile:

The pins are usually in "blind" holes so you cant knock them out. There is a special clamp for the job that looks a bit like a pulley drawer but most resort to the pry bar against the winch body method.

Just be careful not to damage the casing if you go with that option.

If your Tirfor is the open case type, the one with the handle that sticks out the top - you just bash the pin out with a drift. If its the clamshell type, with the built in hooks and the handle on the side...well...its gonna be a bad day...best of luck. There are youtube tutorials that will walk you through it though.....
