A friend of mine works as an Art Director for big advertising company. I asked him if it's worth having a Facebook page.

 

Answer in short: If my potential customers hang around there and I am able to continous post interesting stuff it's fine. Otherwise a tidy Homepage is more professional and better.

 

My main customers are solvent homeowners, if I should guess from experience, they where maybe between 40-80 years.

 

The mass of FB users is not in that range. End.

You just need to look on community groups to see the type who look for people on fb

usually its "im looking for a cheap tree surgeon for this" and then you watch as every local builder or gardener with a chainsaw begs for the work.

 

I have a page but i don't put much on it, when i see share begging i think its really cringe

A business FB costs nothing.

A web site is essential.

However, I update the FB several times a month with intetesting projects.

Then include the FB link in emails.

It's a gallery of work.

My web master tells me it is an important tool.

The firm he works for obtains a great deal of revenue through their FB presence.

I've got a basic Facebook business page and it's served me well. If you join groups and get the misses and friends to give you recommendations and point to your page if someone inquires elsewhere about tree work. Once a few had been pointed in my direction others followed.

My website is more professional and gives more information. But it's worth having a Facebook pages as it's free and costs little time. My only issue is as I am rarely on Facebook myself I have to set reminders to check my business page messages.

I've a facebook business page (nothing to do with arboriculture) which I probably could get considerably more out of if I made the effort to use it a bit more. I just struggle a bit with the whole "look at me" thing, but this year I'm just going to make a wee bit more effort and even just stick on the odd photo of something I've been working at or whatever.

 

I don't do any advertising, all work comes by word of mouth, so for me it's just enough to keep the name out there.

 

Can't really agree with the statement regarding demographic of facebook user, most of my customers probably would be 40, 50, 60 age group, practically all of them are regular facebook users. Mrs uses it regular to keep in touch with friends and family even though most of them are only 10 or 15 mins drive away, even her mother who's in her late seventies!
