Biomass boiler wood

Hi this is my first post and I'm not sure which section to add this to so maybe a moderator could move it accordingly .......

We have a biomass boiler currently running off wheat straw which works well. However woodchip has a better calorific value so we are looking into that as an alternative to reduce the annual requirement. We would be wanting to buy timber in full lengths to store outside then we would chip it ourselves and dry it ourselves (if required) as needed. Annual use would be around 300 tonnes. Anybody know a forestry supplier we have got to direct as we are not interested in dealing with merchants or middlemen as straw is so cheap as we provide it ourselves. We are Midlands based. Thank you.

Dry it in the round, then chip it. :thumbup1:

what timber species are you looking at?

In the absence of the op, he should be looking at softwood. Per tonne it contains around the same energy as hardwood. As softwood is cheaper/ tonne then his energy will be cheaper.

We use all soft woods apart from the ones containing large amounts of resin such as leylandii.
