Quite sad really. I have just voted for it as Tree of the Year based on how many people will have been (in)directly linked. If that makes sense.

Can't help thinking a Crown Reduction and mulching treatment would prolong it's life. Really wouldn't mind getting a closer look.

I'm sure they've had plenty of knowledgeable people looking at the best solutions for many years.

I think they should preserve it in the worlds most massive Guinness World Record beating Apple Cider Vinegar jar and pop it on display in the Tate Modern.

cheers, steve

I have worked on a tree next to that tree and spoke with the owner (unfortunately no longer with us) and she told me that the only time anyone looked after it was when they wanted the cuttings. Alot of business around that area have made alot of money off that tree and put sod all into it's care.

Hi

'Prof Cocking said the fungal infection gets into the water transport system of the tree and slowly kills it off - similar to a human's arteries getting clogged up'. Really. I thought it had honey fungus not a vascular wilt.

Ed

I thought that was a bit queer too! Sounds like it could be bad science to me.

Anyway how about nominating Armillaria as fungus of the year?
