Help need on Apple orchard clearance

Morning chaps. I'm looking at a job in Kent clearing a mature apple orchard.

There is about 20 acres. All good size timber average 8-10" What sort of price could I expect to get for it green road side.

I was thinking that too sean, sounds like a significant loss of a niche habitat and cultural landscape.

 

What's the reason for the clearance Joe?

As much as you can. Not easy to handle the crane / grab as they will be short lengths I would gess.

I was unfortunate enough to be involved in a job last year which saw the removal of 7 mature pear trees. That was a sad day. Each tree supported a whole myriad of species from insects feeding on deadwood, birds nesting in cavities, epiphytes and fungi.

20 acres is a large number of trees, a whole Eco system in that one orchard, gone just like that.

 

A sad day indeed.

It is sad but 20 acres must be commercial orchard so restock may be why the mass clearance

Hi all

 

Thank you for your replies. It's a commercial fruit farm you right. From what I understand it is to be re planted and is becoming uneconomical at present. Will have a proper look at it soon was just trying to see how cost will stack up And how easy it will be to get rid of the wood.
