:blushing:

cut through a tv aerial cable and a telephone cable whilst stump grinding today.

will i get away with a sensible repair, by rejoining a suitable lenght of cable(s)

any one done this?

Mate, what depth were the cables, ? have a look at NJUG10 there is an updated utility guide but for me if the cables were not installed in accordance with those guidelines i would just make your client aware of the irregularity and tell them to take it up with there service provider, you could put it all in letter form and quote the specifications from the guidance, ( Cable depth installation) and reference it. You could even contact the service provider directly . I would need to dig out the spec to tell you what depths they should be at, remember, if you just go repairing something that you are not authorized or qualified to do you will be opening a whole new can of worms, regs are there for a reason it just takes a little time to read them. I include a reference to them on all my risk assessments, if services have not been installed correctly i will not be held accountable.

Thats interesting,

Worth a look at and fair comment.

The cables werent remarkably deep, but to be fair im confident in doing the job, having wired and installed audio applications over the years. Among my concerns would have been a drop in any signal strength, but generally thinking about multiple telephone connections throughout homes without amplification vetoes that worry.

The customer is a friendly sort, and i wouldnt really feel comfortable over a conflicting responsibility issue....I could of run a mattock through the soil to start with...which i will do in future.
