Shells

Hi

I've decided to move away from animals for a while and seeking a new challenge I decided to carve seashells - living on a very small island I'm hoping they will be popular. I found it difficult to keep a consistent spiral going but I'm pleased with progress from the elm shell to the beech one.

The first shell is in the firewood pile!

nice form there. I quite often see these done as speed-carves but havent tried one myself

I hope you don't mean the 1st one as in the 1st pic. I like that one the most.

One small suggestion would be to possibly slant the base so that the shell sits at a slight angle or a couple with no base. Just to mix it up a little.

Nice them. Get that one off the log pile,nothing wrong with em. I don't think you have to worry too much about an even spiral, adds individual character. Good work mate, keep em coming.

Sorry for the confusion, the elm shell is my second attempt! The first got separated from the stump when blocking out!

 

I have quite a lot of timber now to work with including this 3.8m by 3' oak log and tons of beech and elm - better keep practising on the scraps before I let myself loose on this lot!
