Trailer security

Bought myself an old Indespension 8 x 4 beavertail trailer and wondered what my esteemed fellow Arbtalkers could recommend in the way of security other than the usual minefields and GPMGs firing on fixed lines. It has Mini wheels so am I right in thinking that I will struggle to get a wheel clamp that fits? Are hitchlocks even worth bothering with? All sensible comments and Bolam-esque insanity welcomed. :001_smile:

I have come to the conclusion that the only legal way is a big nasty eat your balls off guard dog tied to it over night.

Or a very good hitchlock that covers the bolts on the hitch, underneath ground anchor wrapped around the axle would be my favorite.

take a wheel off or remove the 2 bolts that hold the hitch inplace both only take a few mins if its parked up a lot and a big decent bikers chain to chain it to another trailer & block it in

if they want it they will take it i've had to weld postcodes all over mine even inside the wheel rims to proove its mine if its ever found oh and leave it scruffy or a crapy paint colors too

You can only slow them down....your insurance will only recognise recognised makes/models of clamps and hitch locks. Also if your leaving the trailer connected whilst your in the back garden working use a big heavy chain onto your vehicle and have the hitch lock bolts welded up. I had some chain specially ordered that is 10 times better than what you can get off the counter. All of my kit is engraved in a secret place and a photo taken...

I have one of these the trailer is basically blocked behind it

trailer has been safe behind that for over 2 years i also put a hitch lock on and wheel clamp

best - legal not likely to be likely/lucky enough to catch in action.

mind you years ago a friend of mine worked near my house and often used to pop up and enter house through a method without key but ok with me ( i was single and had no items of value) and borrow tools if needed, always texted me so i was aware but one day text didnt come through etc and i got a call from cops who said car reg ... ... ... was seen coming in drive, person went round back, came back a few mins later and left, seemed dodgy and had been reported by a regular dog walker, would i like them stopped/arrested, so just as i thought oh poo i have been robbed and yes please something clicked and i said was it a red astra...

turns out dog walkers were used to make in a defender so his dads astra wasnt known!

very amusing and close call for him.

so if you live somewhere very public like me, and notice you have regular walkers all week etc they are often better than cctv and encourange them to be nosey. i speak to them all, feed all dogs a biscuit, know their names and so on if i can. best ever security system i reckon.

estate had some timber harvesting done and some trees were roadside so driver thought he would do them out of hrs sort of to be people free, turns out theres folks walking dogs after 1am and by 4am so never goes quiet.
