hi, is it compulsory to have a ticket to use on site a chipper. we had a visit today and health and safety man was not sure I know you don't need one for domestic site but what about otherwise.

I think it depends, if your working for your self and it is your job then no, I don't think you do but if your subbing to anyone eg the site owner/dev company or anyone really, I think you do. I only say this as I haven't got a digger ticket but if I drive it for my self I don't need it yet if I drive for my dad for example, because I'm subbing, I do. Hope this makes sense. I believe that in your case, technically you should have a ticket to use the chipper.

You must have training, and be able to show evidence that training has taken place. A certificate of competence is a good way to demonstrate this, however there are other ways of doing it, ie an in house training procedure.

have done inductions on large demo sites that have lasted most of the day!

It's £150, just do it..... Apologies for the bluntness but it's not exactly a pass or fail course. If you've a reasonable sized outfit with a few guys needing it, get some one to come to you and do it on site.

If its in house and i was to receive certs or paperwork showing ive done it will that count if i was to go else where to work (for example)

If I needed training on a chipper I would rather it was from one of the lads on here that has years of experience. There are too many pale face unqualified pen pushers offering training that have never commercially operated a chipper or actually used a forklift for example. You can get some nice certificates paper from viking. If you have been trained in house with notes to prove that you are competant why not produce a certificate in house.
