DRIVING LICENCE - 4b expiry

Sorry, just promted by another DL related post, and as my lad has just got his new 'unblemished' licence, I was reminded that the "4b" date is technically a licence expiry date, albeit for the photo.

 

Hence check yours and update if necessary...before 'Mr Plod' raises a few more funds for the central pot.

PS If you'ce still got the 'old style' paper licence, which is still valid as far as I'm aware, then this doesn't apply.

It's only the photo thats out of date tho, the licence is still valid so as far as im aware you cant be fined for anything?

Not absolutely sure, as always , but I think I have heard a case of someone being fined...but maybe there were other factors.

 

Either way, prob best not to risk it.

I've recently renewed my insurance and this has been the only time it's been a problem, so i've finally got round to changing it. Wasn't a problem when I've been stopped by the police.

If the photo has expired the licence is no longer valid and if stopped you will be done for driving without a licence. Be warned!

 

Also since technically you don't have a licence your insurance will most likely be reduced to 3rd party RTA cover only.

Yep if 4b has expired, the licence has too.

 

Your entitlements are still valid but licence is not.

They prosecute for failure to hold a VALID license.

Just spoken to somebody about this and they can do you for failing to surrender your licence as you haven't got a valid licence to surrender, but you can still drive, in theory it could be a £1000 fine. As for inusrance the ABI has apparently dismissed this as being a get out clause so no worries on the insurance front.

Its dead easy to sort out, you can do it online if you have had a recent passport. Or just fill in a form.

Hi chaps new to all this... Just been a course at myerscough college I was nominated by a tree officer to be arb associated.. Met a chap called Paul smith I think.. He was switched on and a giggle wanna up my game gonna try and get arb approved any tips?
